It has been seen that postpartum depression is common to a large number of women all over the world. With such a number of mothers suffering from this type of depression after giving birth, all of its causes still remain uncovered. There is a variety of reasons which cause depression of any kind. Postpartum depression in particular is mainly caused due to rapid hormonal changes in the body. However, there could be some other reasons as well.
If the mother is young, or has suffered from other kinds of depression in the past then it’s very likely that she will suffer from postpartum depression as well. A family history that shows a lot of depressed individuals, lack of communication between the partners, anxiety due to fear of handling the baby correctly and a lot of other factors contribute to postpartum depression. Many mothers feel sad and lonely after giving birth to their first baby. They think a part of them is missing and even though the baby is always in front of them, they find it difficult to accept the fact that their life has totally changed now. A difficult pregnancy, as well as a disturbing labor can also lead to depression after childbirth. Feeling of exhaustion from nine months of constant terror of going through the whole procedure of childbirth is sometimes shocking for a lot of women. Even many days after giving birth they can’t escape from this feeling. This is often a cause of depression. Even though a lot of women go through this phase once or many times in their lives, it’s also important to remember that not all women are victims of depression. If they are cheerful throughout their pregnancy and a lot of people are there to help them out when the baby finally arrives, then there are very less chances of experiencing postpartum depression. Careful planning and adequate knowledge of pregnancy and childbirth can save you from a lot of tensions after giving birth. Make a note of educating your husbands about the whole procedure and what changes are to be expected after it is over, so that both of you can enjoy this new and fulfilling in your lives. |
